ARKWRIGHT - A Westfield man was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital over the weekend after becoming pinned by a wrecker he was operating in Arkwright.
David L. Overstreet, 39, was injured in the Saturday evening accident, which occurred shortly before midnight on Cable Road, the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Police say the wrecker Overstreet was operating slid backwards on the slippery road toward the vehicle he was attempting to winch out of a ditch. He was struck by the heavy machinery and was pinned by the wrecker and the ditch.
An Alstar Ambulance crew worked to keep the Westfield man stable and warm while additional wreckers from Mancuso's and Ellman's Garage were called to the scene.
The Arkwright Highway Department helped by laying down sand to help the heavy equipment navigate the slippery road.
Overstreet was freed and taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk for treatment of undisclosed injuries. A man who answered the phone at Mancuso's said Overstreet was "doing fine" and was out of the hospital by Sunday, but could not provide further details.
First responders from the Forestville Fire Department and New York State Police assisted in the accident.
