MAYVILLE - Those in Mayville working 9 to 5 have a new restaurant from which to grab a quick bite during their lunch hour.

The County Grill, located at 43 S. Erie St., Mayville, is the new place offering dine-in and takeout, and delivery service for county employees, for lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The restaurant is also open for dinners from 5-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Shaibu Alfa, manager and co-owner, said the business is geared toward serving the hardworking men and women of Mayville a quick, but quality meal for lunch.

''Most of what we do is takeout,'' Alfa said. ''We do deliver to the county building. County employees get a 10 percent discount off their meal.''

Alfa said The County Grill opened in mid-October thanks to advice from County Executive Greg Edwards. Alfa said the owner of the restaurant, Van McConnon, was thinking about closing the location, which is just a short distance from where county employees work.

''Van was thinking about closing down, but Mr. Edwards suggested to stay open, that the county's employees needed us,'' Alfa said. ''So here we are, and the county executive will have at least one more vote the next time he runs.''

The restaurant serves a lot of burgers, pita sandwiches and wraps. The business also has pizza logs, jalapeno poppers, and spicy and barbecue chicken.

''One of our best sandwiches is our pastrami. We smoke it ourselves and then add caramelized onions, provolone and our house dijonnaise,'' he said.

Alfa said The Country Grill specializes in making one-of-a-kind sauces and dips to add extra spice to each meal. The restaurant for dinner serves hearty meals like meatloaf, rosemary chicken, pork tenderloin, four-cheese ravioli, spaghetti and meatballs, shepherd's pie and a fish fry. The business also offers several specials of the day to go along with menu items. Alfa said he wants to expand the menu this summer by adding the most popular specials of the day.

''On our Facebook page, we are asking people for ideas on what they want us to serve,'' he said. ''We're trying to get to know people. Trying to hangout with the customers when they come in so we get to know them.''

Alfa said he has been in the restaurant business for 15 years and that he enjoys pleasing people's appetite.

''I love cooking. I love the challenge. I love hearing that people enjoyed the meal. That is a great challenge,'' he said.
