ST. BONAVENTURE - The fourth quarter was the downfall of Randolph in the boys basketball championship of the IAABO Holiday Tournament on Friday night.
Randolph was down by just a point to Portville, 42-41, after three quarters, but had too many turnovers in the final stanza and was outscored, 16-7, and eventually lost, 58-48.
''They pressured us and we turned it over,'' said Cardinals coach Kevin Hind, whose team fell to 4-3 overall. The defeat was the second time that the Cardinals have fallen to Portville (8-1) this season.
Zach Blask, the tourney's Most Valuable Player, and Marcellin each had six points during the decisive quarter for Portville and Gallo nailed a trey early in the period. The Panthers also took advantage of free throw opportunities as they connected on 15-of-20 attempts while the Cardinals were 2-of-4.
Josh Watson, who was on the all-tournament team with teammate Blask, hit 18 points and Blask wound up with 16 points.
Taylor Miller sank 15 points and Bryce Morrison 13 points to lead the Cardinals, who had Morrison and teammate Nate Beaver on the all-tournament team. Morrison accounted for eight rebounds and Beaver added five assists.
