To the Readers' Forum:
I read the Readers' Forum most every day. Sometimes I read it with laughter at the content, sometimes with sadness and then sometimes with anger.
A recent submission has me so angry that I felt compelled to respond. I am very sorry Mr. Spac that the letter writer seems to have labeled you as some kind of second class citizen that we can't be proud of the business you run!
I am so sick and tired of the "not in my backyard" mentality today. With the economy being where it is, we need to welcome anyone into our towns that offer a legitimate business. Mr. Spac has a history of proof he is just the thing I am talking about.
What is so bad about a used car lot? The hours are not going to disturb anyone, the noise is not going to disturb anyone and it is going brighten up a corner of Lakewood that has needed some attention.
The statement in the letter about waiting for a business we can be proud of is an insult and both the owner of the building and Mr. Spac deserve an apology.
I understand it is a busy corner but I don't believe that any other occupant has had to agree to such strict regulations and yet Mr. Spac had agreed to everything that has been asked. It could be a gas station again with gas, oil, antifreeze, old tires and any other hazardous materials along with junk cars. Would you like that better?
Do you realize how many sales tax dollars this business will generate for the state, county and, yes, the village of Lakewood. I am sure they will be very happy to get their share. I am willing to wager that this business will generate more money for Lakewood than any other business that property had housed.
The people and the village of Lakewood should be rolling out the red carpet for Mr. Spac.
Mr. Spac, I am sorry and would not blame you for moving on to a town that would like to have your business.
