WESTFIELD - Betty G. (Guest) Hyde, age 86, of South Portage Street, Westfield, died unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at home.
Betty was born on Jan. 2, 1926, in Erie, Pa., the daughter of the late Joseph and Blanche (Kester) Guest. She lived in Ripley, N.Y. throughout her childhood years and later moved to Westfield while in junior high school. She was a 1943 graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School.
Betty was a longtime member of The First United Methodist Church of Westfield and had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Betty was a Girl Scout volunteer and leader for many years. Prior to starting her family, Betty had worked in the offices of National Grape (Brocton) as well as Welch Foods and Marine Bank, both in Westfield. She was a stay-at-home mom until her children were in school. She then worked in the offices of the family business, Hyde Plumbing and Heating, also of Westfield.
While in high school, Betty enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball and tennis. Later in life, she spent time cross-country skiing and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.
Betty also enjoyed sewing, knitting and reading. She looked forward to class reunions and spending time with her high school friends. Betty was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was the love of her life.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years: Harold S. Hyde, whom she married on Oct. 5, 1946, in Mayville, N.Y., and her daughter, Colleen (Dennis) Martin of Allegany, N.Y. Betty was the very proud grandmother of Daniel Martin of Sherman, N.Y., Michael Martin of Chicago, Ill., and Michelle Chino of Harlingen, Texas.
Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her son, Daniel G. Hyde (1999), and by her two brothers: Elmer Guest and Arthur Kester.
Friends may call at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, from 3-6 p.m. and are invited to attend her funeral service there on Thursday morning, Dec. 27, 2012, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Matthew Golibersuch officiating. Private burial will be in Westfield Cemetery.
