Cassadaga Utility Worker Resigns Position

CASSADAGA - Larry Farnham, hired as a utility worker for the village of Cassadaga beginning July 9, delivered his resignation to the village board recently.

Farnham replaced longtime employee Ron Matter, who resigned effective June 8.

Farnham waited patiently while the board held a work session with Randy Graham, the account executive for the insurance agency that handles insurance for the village.

When the regular meeting was called to order, the board finished its business with Graham and then invited Farnham to speak.

Farnham said simply, "The position is not working out. ... I want to shake hands with all the members of the board and thank them for hiring me and for their support."

He proceeded to shake hands with the board and also street supervisor Tom Fetter. All members of the board were cordial to him. He then wished everyone a happy holiday and quietly left the meeting.

The notes from the board's meeting of Nov. 19 indicated Fetter had reviewed some problems with the utility worker and the board had gone into executive session to discuss personnel issues about the worker.

During the board meeting, Fetter said due to Farnham's resignation, he "will really need some help quickly," pointing out winter plowing could start at any time.

After the meeting, Lazarony said the letter gave no specific reason for the resignation.

She also said she will consult with the village attorney about the proper way to handle hiring a replacement.

She wasn't certain whether she will need to readvertise for the position or can use the applications that were submitted during the summer when Farnham was hired.
