Raymond W. Shields, 79, of Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing, formerly of 3017 Garfield Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, in WCA Hospital.
He was born Sept. 1, 1933, in Indiana, Pa., the son of the late Walter and Olie Walker Shields.
For many years, Ray worked for the Jamestown Public School System, retiring as head custodian at Bush School. He was a member of the War Vets, and the Ira Lou Spring Post American Legion. Ray was an avid Johnny Cash fan, enjoyed old time gospel music, and he loved crossword puzzles.

Surviving are three sons: Randall (Linda) Shields of N. Las Vegas, Nev., Russell (Mary) Shields of Jamestown, and Roger (Nadine) Shields of Grove City, Ohio; a daughter, Robin (Ulf) Haglund of Sweden; five grandchildren: Jason Shields of Columbus, Ohio; Randy Shields II and Jennifer Hisey, both of Las Vegas, Kaitlyn Dustin of Madison, Wis., and Emily Shields of Falconer; six great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Dustin-Shields of Falconer; and his companion, Susan Peavy of Jamestown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Connie LaMar Shields; two brothers: Paul and Eugene Shields; and his longtime companion, Barbara Graves.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald A. Haglund will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
