Lady T-Birds’ Defense Shines Against MGHS

MAYVILLE - Chautauqua Lake's lockdown defense held Maple Grove scoreless in the first quarter and surrendered just two points in the first half as the Lady Thunderbirds rolled to a 45-17 Division 3 victory on Tuesday.

"Our defense was pretty stout all night," Chautauqua Lake coach Eric Schuster said. "I give our kids a lot of credit, they just didn't give (Maple Grove) an open look the whole game."

Jenna Einink stuffed the stat sheet for the victors, who improved to a perfect 5-0 overall and 1-0 in league, as she had 10 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, eight steals and six blocks. Teammate Courtney Hewes added nine points and four assists.

For Maple Grove (1-3, 0-1), Nickara Liddell connected on a pair of shots from beyond the arc for a team-high six points while Lauren Nickerson grabbed 11 rebounds.

PANAMA ROLLS TO WIN

FORESTVILLE - The Panama Lady Panthers (1-1, 1-0) were the aggressor in downing the Forestville Lady Hornets (4-2, 0-1), 62-46.

"The aggressiveness wasn't there," Forestville coach Sierra Finch lamented about her team. "Just not aggressive enough."

Forestville turned the ball over 32 times.

The visitors outscored Forestville in every quarter on their way to victory.

Brittany Lenart led Panama with 16 points and six rebounds. Allison Strickland chipped in with 12 points and Carly Abbate had 10 points and four assists while Brianna Marsh had six rebounds and five steals in the win.

The Lady Hornets were led by Alisha Szumigala's 17 points, 12 rebounds and seven steals. Sydney Youngberg had 14 points while Cherish Pope finished with 11 rebounds and six assists.
