Eleven individuals were arrested Friday following a fixed sobriety checkpoint organized by the New York State Police and Jamestown Police Department.
The joint police effort - part of the nationwide program "Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest" - held the checkpoint on North Main Street in the city from 9 p.m. until 3 a.m. Saturday morning. In addition to driver inspections, officers were assigned to patrol in southern Chautauqua County.
According to a news release by the New York State Police:
William T. Carlson, 37, of Buffalo Street, Jamestown, was charged with driving while intoxicated at the fixed sobriety checkpoint. Carlson submitted to a breath test at the Jamestown's state police headquarters, which indicated his blood-alcohol content to be .12 percent. Carlson will be in Jamestown City Court later.
Sean D. Harris, 29, of Dewey Street, Buffalo, was arrested on a warrant issued by the New York City Criminal Court for felony third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Harris was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over for having excessive window tint at 8:18 p.m. Friday on Route 394 in Ellicott. Harris was taken to the Chautauqua County Jail where he was held pending transport to New York City.
Chase C. Johnson, 25, of Pittsburgh, Pa., was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana at the fixed sobriety checkpoint. Johnson will be in Jamestown City Court later.
Aaron T. Moore, 24, of Gerry-Ellington Road, Gerry, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana at the fixed sobriety checkpoint. Moore had a plastic bag with three grams of marijuana and a metal smoking device with marijuana residue. Moore will be in Jamestown City Court later.
Camryn Knight, 18, of Sterns Avenue, Jamestown, was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance at the fixed sobriety checkpoint after police found 10 .25 milligram tablets of Alprazolama, a schedule four controlled substance. Knight will be in Jamestown City Court later.
Ryan A. Prinzi, 28, of Magnolia Street, Jamestown, was pulled over for having an expired registration on Foote Avenue Extention, Kiantone, and was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. Prinzi had a plastic baggie containing three grams of marijuana. Prinzi will be in Kiantone Town Court later.
Robert A. Kost, Jr., 32, of Clyde Avenue, Jamestown, was charged for driving while ability impaired by drugs after a two-vehicle personal injury hit-and-run accident on Interstate 86 in Ellery in the eastbound lanes. Police report Kost rear-ended a vehicle driven by Todd A. Crandall of Fredonia, and fled the scene. A passenger in Crandall's vehicle, Paula Carris, suffered a neck injury. Due to a mechanical failure of his vehicle, Kost was found one mile from the scene. Kost was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, leaving the scene of a personal injury auto accident and unlicensed operation. He will be in Ellery Town Court later.
William T. Andrews, 45, of Academy Street, Salamanca, was charged with driving while intoxicated following a vehicle and traffic stop on Interstate 86 in Poland. Andrews was pulled over for moving from his lane unsafely. Andrews was found to be intoxicated following a field sobriety test. He was taken to Jamestown's state police headquarters. Andrews provided a breath sample which indicated his blood-alcohol content to be .14 percent. He will be in Poland Town Court later.
Kyle L. Dye, 26, of Park Street, Jamestown, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana after he was pulled over on Third Street in Jamestown for having a loud exhaust system. Police report Dye had a marijuana grinder containing less than a gram of marijuana and a smoking device containing marijuana residue. Dye will be in Jamestown City Court later.
Colton A. Derby, 18, of Maplecrest Avenue, Lakewood, and Jakob D. Snow, 18, of Big Tree Road, Jamestown, were charged for unlawful possession of marijuana after their vehicle was pulled over on Second Street in Jamestown for having no license plate lamp at 12:40 a.m. Saturday. Police report the driver, Derby, had two plastic bags containing 12 grams of marijuana, one burnt marijuana cigarette and one gram of marijuana in the vehicle's ashtray while Snow had two plastic bags containing four grams of marijuana. Both will be in Jamestown City Court later.
Darin L. Butts Jr., 19, of Thayer Street, Jamestown, was arrested while walking on Third Street after a check with the Jamestown Police Department revealed an arrest warrant for third-degree assault issued by the Jamestown City Court. Butts was taken at the Jamestown City Jail until he can be arraigned.
