Fredonia Upends Falconer, 47-40

FALCONER - The Fredonia Lady Hillbillies went on a 16-6 third-quarter run on their way to a 47-40 Division 1 basketball victory over Falconer on Friday night.

The Lady Golden Falcons held a 21-20 advantage at halftime before Fredonia went on its run.

Morgan Genovese led Fredonia with 15 points and Alicia Deering added 12.

For Falconer, Shannon Gunnell had 18 points and completed the double-double with 11 rebounds. Alyssa Brooks also had 11 boards, Emma Steele added five assists and Bre McFall had two steals.

TROJANS FALL

OLEAN - Southwestern knew it would have its hands full as it traveled to Olean (2-0), but the Lady Trojans (1-3) played a solid second half before falling to the Lady Huskies, 45-32.

"We are a young crew," said Southwestern coach Anne Beck. "But the girls realized they could play with them. I thought our post played well against their post."

In the first half, Olean was dominant, holding a 27-11 halftime lead, but Southwestern outscored the Huskies, 21-18, in the second half.

Alex Sullivan led the Lady Trojans with 14 points while Emily Wuebbolt added 13 points to go along with 12 rebounds.

Sara Zigler paced Olean with 16 points.

DIVISION 2

CARDINALS HOLD ON

SALAMANCA - Randolph got off to a quick start, but host Salamanca battled back and the Lady Cardinals were breathing a sigh of relief after hanging on for a 46-43 victory.

After two quarters, Randolph seemed to have things in control with a 29-17 lead, but the Lady Warriors (3-2) cut the lead to seven points at the end of the third period, then poured it on in the final quarter to come within a single point with 19 seconds remaining.

But McKenna Maycock, who led Randolph (3-1) with 17 points, hit a huge basket for a 3-point lead and some timely free throws as the clock wound down secured the win.

Mandy Finch added 12 points for the Lady Cardinals and Maycock posted the double-double with 14 rebounds and also had seven assists.

For Salamanca, Shae Smith had a terrific outing with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists.
