Jeanette Hansen

Jeanette Hansen, 93, passed away on Nov. 28, 2012, in Seattle, Wash.

She was born in Rockford, Ill., on May 30, 1919. When she was 5 her family moved to Jamestown, where she resided until May 2009, when she moved to Seattle to be closer to family.

Mrs. Hansen had been Family editor at The Post-Journal for 17 years. She started working at the newspaper in 1957 as a part-time obituary writer. She worked full-time starting in January 1961 and later that year moved to the country desk as a reporter covering school boards and writing general features. She was promoted to So-ciety editor in 1963, a position she held until her retirement in 1980. The department was renamed Family in 1978. For several years she wrote a column called In This Corner.

Mrs. Hansen enjoyed playing bridge and was in the same group for 60 years. She also enjoyed bowling in the AARP league.

Mrs. Hansen was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, and her daughter, Sheryn Huff.

She is survived by her daughters: Janis Hansen of Los Angeles, and Diane Sampson, 7900 Del Rio Road, Atascadero CA 93422; seven grandchil-dren; and six great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held Dec. 16 in Seattle, and a graveside service will be held in Jamestown later.
