MAYVILLE - Valerie Lis has been appointed Chautauqua County's deputy director of finance.
Lis is a certified public accountant and has more than 25 years of experience in accounting. She previously served as an accounting manager and manager of inventory and control at Cott Corporation, formerly Cliffstar, audit supervisor at Johnson, Mackowiak & Associates, and an accounting manager at AW Farrell Roofing, Inc.
The county's Finance Department has been without a deputy director since Ruth Rowley retired in January 2011.
As deputy director, Lis will be in charge of enhancing the county's internal controls and internal audit functions along with assisting the first deputy director with treasury and financial reporting.
"Of the four candidates that qualified for the position, Lis rose to the top," said Susan Marsh, county finance director. "Her skills, education, and training will be a great asset to our department and county government and we look forward to working with her."
Lis has a master's degree in business administration from Bentley College in Waltham, Mass., and a bachelor's degree in accounting from the State University at Fredonia. She and her husband live in Portland.
