ATTICA - Southwestern freshman Ryan Hetrick completed an undefeated weekend by winning the 99-pound weight class on Saturday at the Sgt. Richard Romesser Attica Blue Devil Challenge wrestling tournament for the Trojans' only title in the highly competitive tournament featuring some of the top teams from Section 5 and Section 6.
Hetrick shutout Victor's Mike Venosa 5-0 in the championship finals match.
In the semifinals, Hetrick pinned Alexander's Dane Heberlein in 5:13 and scored a 15-0 tech. fall over East Aurora's Max Kilijanski in the quarterfinals.
Hetrick had four pins, a technical fall and two shutout victories overall in the two-day tournament and increased his record to 9-0 on the season for the Trojans, who finished ninth overall as a team in the 15 team tournament.
Junior, Tanner Hoose was the only other place finisher for the Trojans by taking fourth at 170.
Dylan Lundmark (126), Brian Westerdahl (138) and Joey Lindberg (145) also wrestled well with multiple wins for Southwestern.
The Trojans had Mitchell Johnson (120), Ben Swanson (182) and Howard Boutelle (195) all earn awards on the scholar-athlete team.
