JCC Women Notch Fourth Straight Win

MIDDLETOWN - The Jamestown Community College women's basketball team has its second four-game winning streak of the season after a 59-51 NJCAA Division II win over the SUNY Orange on Sunday afternoon.

The Jayhawks move to10-3 with the victory and Orange falls to 4-5.

''It was a game of runs,'' JCC coach George Sisson said. ''We had three good runs to their one good run.''

Long-range shooting was also a keythe Jayhawks' victory. JCC had a total of 10 3-pointers and outscored the Lady Colts 30-6 from behind the arc. But when it came to 2-pointers, Orange outscored JCC, 40-16.

The Jayhawks jumped out to 6-0 lead after five minutes of play on 3-pointers by Taylor Storer and Ashley DePane. But Orange responded with a run of 17 answered points for a 17-6 with 11 minutes left in the first half.

The hosts lead was cut to 29-22 at halftime when the Jayhawks forced a turnover with 1.8 seconds left and Kelsey Beaver threw a long pass to Kristina Biela, who put in a layup before the buzzer.

The Jayhawks went on 9-0 run in first 4 minutes of the second half for 31-29 lead behind shooting of Beaver with two 3s while Storer and DePane had one each.

Sisson noted, ''Kristina Biela was the key our run early in the second half with her defensive play in the post.''

JCC went on to outscore Orange 20-9 in first 10 minutes of the second half. The Jayhawks led 56-43 with 3 minutes to play and coasted home with the win.

DePane led JCC with 18 points while Storer and Beaver had 14 each. Storer also had four assists and three steals while Beaver three assists.

Brook Draggett led the Jayhawks in rebounding with eight and Biela had seven.

For Orange, Alexis Tripedo had 21 points and Jenna Wood 11.

JCC plays at Lakeland CC in Kirtland, Ohio, on Thursday at 6 p.m. and then completes the first semester schedule with a game at Lorain County CC in Elyria, Ohio, on Friday at 4 p.m.
