It is very hard for many of us to imagine what happened in Pearl Harbor, but I think we must never forget.
Seeing the pictures of this event in the news this past week should be a reminder of how terrible things can get and how fortunate we all are. As with other events of this nature, I hope everyone took a moment to reflect on what can happen and how we really need to pay attention. These times and the people lost are never forgotten.
We would like to remind everyone our new Winter Farmer's Market is now in operation. The market is held on every Thursday (not Friday) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The market features fresh, locally grown produce and foods. In addition the market has added special vendors for holiday shopping. There are olive oils and vinegars, tie-dye apparel, women's fashions and accessories, specialty baked goods, calligraphy items, handmade jewelry, Swedish items, floral arrangements, Alpaca products and more. Lunches are available. Stop by and support our local businesses-they offer great products at great prices.
We would also like everyone to know the Pittsburgh Pirates and their 2012 Winter Caravan Bus will stop in Jamestown on Thursday. The Jamestown Jammers are the Pirates' new short season Single-A affiliate. They will stop at Jamestown Community College and you will be able to meet the Pirates manager Clint Hurdle along with several players.
The Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet will present the Nutcracker on Dec. 14-15. The event is providing dancers from the New York City Ballet in this great all-time Christmas classic. If you are a fan of ballet and enjoy the Nutcracker, this will be an event you will not want to miss. You can call the Reg Lenna Civic Center for tickets at 484-7070.
Please remember we have the Skating and Gymnastics Spectacular on Saturday at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena. This will be the "best of the best" in both worlds of skating and gymnastics with world famous athletes and Olympians right here in Jamestown. Just so you have an idea of the level of talent the show will star Nastia Liukin, who is the 2008 Olympic all-around champion, four-time national all-around champion and holds nine World Championship medals. The event will also feature the Fresh Beat Band and the R5 Band. This event will air on NBC on Jan. 19, 2013. As we understand, it there are a few tickets left and you can reach the arena by calling 484-2624.
Another reminder would be that Jan. 31 is Jamestown Ironman Appreciation Day. Tickets will be $5 for local businesses and the local work force. The faceoff will be at 11 a.m. - this is a perfect chance to support our Jamestown team and show our appreciation for their investment in Jamestown.
Speaking of our local businesses we, at DJDC, hope you will all take the time to shop in our downtown local businesses. We have great businesses, with great products and great prices. Let's help each other have the best holiday season ever.
