Tolman Engineering, a local engineering consultant with offices in Jamestown and Oviedo, Fla., was recently awarded three Veterans Administration engineering projects.
"Our recent award of the Butler (Pa.) VAMC Demo Building No. 1 Project is our first federal contract with over $1 million fee," said Rex Tolman, managing partner. "We continue to expand the size and number of projects at VA Medical Centers and expand the radius of facilities with which we are working. "
Tolman Engineering was awarded a major contract to demolish the main hospital at Butler VAMC. The project, construction estimated at $10.8 million, includes the development of three sets of contract documents over the next two years. The first phase will isolate all the utilities going to or through the hospital, reroute all utilities to keep the rest of the campus operational and provide utilities to all facilities fed through Building No. 1. Phase two will complete environmental remediation inside and outside the building and demolish all the interior of the building down to the brick/concrete. The final phase will be the actual demolition of the building, site remediation and required modifications to existing facilities to house some of the operations displaced by the demolition. The work also includes the NEPA evaluation, comprehensive cultural resources requirements and construction oversight for the project.
The Butler VA Medical Center awarded Tolman Engineering a project to replace all the windows in Building No. 2. This includes the replacement of approximately 200 windows, lead paint and asbestos remediation and construction oversight of the project.
The Syracuse VA Medical Center has awarded Tolman Engineering an engineering project to remediate the basements of Building No. 1, the main hospital. This includes asbestos remediation, excavation of an 8-foot-high access corridor along the whole length of the basement, structural reinforcement of the exposed caissons, sub-drainage, concrete encasement of the entire basement, removal of miscellaneous inactive plumbing, drainage, electrical and communication facilities and construction oversight.
