SOUTH DAYTON - Kayla Mansfield's three-point play in the opening 20 seconds set the stage for Pine Valley in a 43-31 girls basketball victory over Fredonia in the Pine Valley Tournament Friday night.
After Mansfield's score, the Lady Panthers went on to a 14-6 first quarter advantage and extended that to 13-8 in the second for a 27-14 edge at the halftime.
Coach Tim Nobles credits half-court and full-court pressure that resulted in 35 turnovers as a key to the victory.
Laural Killock scored 12 points, Alex Bentham scored 11 and Mansfield 10 for the Lady Panthers. Bentham had nine steals and Amber Riggs seven while Killock grabbed eight rebounds.
Frankie Sysol gathered 10 rebounds and Bre Dahn six rebounds for the Lady Hillbillies.
Pine Valley plays Frewsburg for the championship at 4 p.m. today, preceded by Fredonia and Ellicottville at 2 p.m. in the consolation game.
