A new piece of equipment was added to the Southwestern Elementary School playground prior to the beginning of the school year in September. The playground was installed following a two-year effort by the school's PTO to raise more than $50,000.
The new piece of equipment was installed to coincide with the 10-year anniversary of the opening of the new elementary school, which replaced the former Celoron and Lakewood buildings.
The new playground was constructed using 1,567 pounds of scrap steel and more than 16,275 recycled milk jugs. Installation was coordinated and guided through BigToys, which was represented locally by John Curtiss Designs. PTO officers are Cindy McFadden and Janet Beckerink, co-presidents; Theresa Levandoski, secretary; Kelly Prewit, staff appreciation chairperson; and Lori Svenson, parent liaison.
