Area Church To Hold Recitals

DUNKIRK - The Worship and Music Committee of the First United Presbyterian Church, 19 W. Fourth St., Dunkirk, will host the Marsh Memorial Advent Recital Series at noon on Dec. 12 and Dec. 19. The program is free and complimentary coffee will be available. Persons attending may take a bag lunch.

Featured will be Jannis Peterson, pianist, and Margaret Flanigan, soprano. Ms. Peterson was on the State College at Fredonia School of Music faculty until retirement in 2010 and was the first recipient of the Outstanding Female Faculty Award sponsored by the student music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha. She earned a bachelor's degree in piano performance, a master's degree in piano performance from the University of North Texas and graduated cum laude from Washington State University. She continues to be active as a performer and continues to teach piano to students of all ages.

Margaret Flanigan, of Albany, is a double major in vocal performance and music education at SUNY Fredonia and recently performed the role of Ann Page in Ott Niccoli's ''The Merry Wives of Windsor.'' She is the residing president of the SUNY Fredonia campus Student Opera Theater Association.

The recital series was begun by the late Howard Marsh when he was director of music at First United Presbyterian Church.
