Blue Star Mothers: Proud Of Our Community

December 5, 2012
The Post-Journal

To the Readers' Forum:

I want to thank our community for everything everyone did to help the Blue Star Mother project. To all of you who showed up on Saturday, who stopped by to pack some boxes and give us a hand - I am so sorry if I didn't get to greet some of you.

I want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for all of the wonderful support you have given our Blue Star Mother chapter. I had many people call me and email me saying they wanted to help and it just touched me to see all of our community who dropped by to lend us a hand.

I wanted you to know that we were able to send 304 boxes on Saturday. That is 40 more than last year. So many wonderful people showed up to help, and so many wonderful people donated items and or money that we were able to pack and address 304 boxes in a matter of 1 1/2 hours.

We were inundated with addresses this year, which was a true blessing. At last count we have about 450. We were a little sad because we weren't able to fulfill our complete list. However our amazing community came together once again, and it just gave me chills. Many of the volunteers who were there started taking boxes and offering to fill them. We told them if they they filled them, we would cover the postage. We are meeting next Saturday once again to gather together all of those boxes that those wonderful people took, and for anyone else who may want to donate.

We have already gotten a few more donations of items and we are hoping more people who didn't get a chance to help out will step up and offer to help us try to fulfill our complete list of military members addresses that we collected this year.

If there is anyone who didn't get a chance to help and would like to - we will be meeting again at the Kiantone Congregational Church on the Jamestown-Kiantone Road this next Saturday, Dec. 8, at 9:30 a.m. We have about 150 more military on our list and it would be a wonderful Christmas blessing if we could fulfill our complete list.

We are all very proud to live in this community where everyone supports those who protect us. May God Bless America.
