Lakewood Chautauqua South Rotarians recently had an opportunity to work with the board elections and League of Women Voters in local schools, helping with a mock presidential election. Students had been studying the elections and the chance to study the issues and debates. They were then brought to a polling area and given a ballot to vote for the president only, using a regular but modified ballot and real voting machines. Ballots were cast and results were given at the end of the day. Explanations were given on how the ballots and the machines worked. They learned that if a mistake was made they were given a new ballot and had to turn them both in. They also learned what would happen if the machine broke.
