MAYVILLE - Knowledge is power, especially in regard to one's own health.
Local herbal store HerbsR4U teamed up with its biggest supplier, Nature's Sunshine, to hold a recent seminar entitled "An Introduction to Natural Health." The all-day event was held at Mayville's Chautauqua Suites and featured guest speaker and nutritional consultant, Sylvia Rogers.
The seminar is part of an annual educational series hosted by Nature's Sunshine. According to Faith Luce, owner and founder of HerbsR4U, it was because of Nature's Sunshine's desire to have their customers informed that she was attracted to the major herbal manufacturer.

"These (seminars) are fabulous because they go in depth," said Ms. Luce. "And yet, if you're just a beginner you can still learn so much. And not only do they do that, but they have monthly Webinars on their website. You can do as little or as much as you want."
The subject matter in Saturday's seminar centered around the 10 different body systems and what compromises them. In addition to describing what each body system does, Mrs. Rogers also distributed products to help them function better and offered a question-and-answer session after each system was discussed.
"(Mrs. Rogers) does a tremendous amount of research on her own," said Ms. Luce. "So, you're not only getting Nature's Sunshine information but you're also getting a lot of scientific research that she's done and can document."
Ms. Luce, who is also a periodic teacher for Nature's Sunshine, insists that there is always more to be learned.
"I still go to class whenever there's a speaker," said Ms. Luce. "Even today, though (Mrs. Rogers) has been doing some basic, elementary things, I have learned so much from her just by sitting in on the morning session."
Sylvia Rogers has worked with Nature's Sunshine as a natural health practitioner and herb specialist for more than 30 years. Mrs. Rogers has been a Nature's Sunshine speaker for three years and gives approximately10 seminars a year throughout the United States and Canada.
"These sorts of seminars have been an excellent way to educate people," said Mrs. Rogers. "When we supply a product line of nearly 600 products, we want people to know how to use them. And to teach them is wonderful. You hear all kinds of wonderful testimonies, you learn what people are doing, and some of Nature's Sunshine's herbalists are the most knowledgeable that I've ever met."
Nature's Sunshine, which accounts for 60-65 percent of HerbsR4U's inventory, has been partnered with Ms. Luce for nearly 15 years, since her shop was first opened in 1998.
"One of the good things about Nature's Sunshine is that they encourage you to be educated," said Ms. Luce. "It's not just about selling pills but knowing why. It's just amazing and I love every minute of it."
