Lawrence “Larry” P. Grimes

Lawrence "Larry" P. Grimes, 65, of 3941 Cowing Road, Lakewood, N.Y., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.

Larry was born in Jamestown, N.Y., on Aug. 21, 1947, a son of Blanche (Ewer) Grimes Hodges, of Kennedy, N.Y., and the late Howard Grimes.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War, and retired from New England Motor Freights, where he was a truck driver for many years.

Larry was a member of the AMVETS in Sugar Grove, the American Legion in Sugar Grove, Busti Mens Club and the Vietnam War Group in Falconer.

He loved to restore older John Deere tractors. He was an avid deer hunter and especially enjoyed "Sassie," his beloved Dalmatian.

He was the husband of Marian (John) Grimes, whom he married July 18, 1970, in Gerry, N.Y.

In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by a son, Marty Grimes of Jamestown, N.Y.; grandson, Tylar Grimes of Lakewood, N.Y.; three brothers: Howard (Debbie) Grimes Jr. of Sinclairville, N.Y., Fred (Phyliss) Grimes, Jr. of Hudson, Fla., and Dwight Grimes of Ohio; sister, Dorothy (Carl) Hansen of Kennedy, N.Y.; two stepbrothers, John Henry Grimes and Robert Grimes; two stepdaughters, Alyssa Lugten and Ashley Wickmark; and two boys that Larry was very close to: Jeff Bernette and Chip Coil.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Grimes in 2004; a niece, Alexandria Dawn Grimes; and several aunts and uncles.

Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Sugar Grove Branch of McKinney Funeral Homes and Cremation Services Inc., 117 Main St., Sugar Grove, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 3. Graveside services will follow in Lottsville Cemetery, where full military honors will be presented.
