HAMBURG - Jamestown got off to a fast start Wednesday night in its Division 1 wrestling battle with Hamburg in the Erie County Interscholastic Conference.
Jamestown came up with three pins in the first three bouts en route to a 51-24 victory over Hamburg.
Coach Craig Swanson was pleased with the early edge as newcomers Jacis Blake (220), Sky Somerton (285) and Dakota Conklin (99) were able to post pins in the first three matches.
Overall, the Red Raiders held a 5-3 advantage in pins with Mike Southwick (160) pinning Shane Rogers in just 19 seconds and Nate Somerton (195) gaining the other falls.
Adam Gullo of Jamestown was leading his 145-pound match with Eric Sheffield, 7-2, when he got caught by Sheffield and was pinned in 2:42. Gullo, a sophomore, is the younger brother of former Jamestown standout Jacob Gullo.
The Red Raiders are next in dual meet action with Frontier at home on Dec. 12. They will compete in the Eisenhower Tournament on Dec. 8.

FRANKLINVILLE - Franklinville overcame a 25-point deficit by recording six consecutive pins to capture a season-opening Division 2 match, 42-37, over Salamanca.
Trailing 31-6 after Salamanca dominated the heavyweight classes, Devin Wesolek started the pin-streak off at 113 pounds when he flattened opponent Brandon Francis in 1:46, then John Willey at 120 pounds, Matt Bacher at 126 pounds, Brandon Winter at 132 pounds, Nick Winter at 128 pounds and Pat Defoe at 145 pounds followed suit to reach the winning margin.
Salamanca took the early lead after winning by fall in four of its first six matches.
Franklinville's next opponent is Randolph on Dec. 5.
