TITUSVILLE, Pa. - The defense was superb for Jamestown Community College (6-2) en route to its fourth straight win in NJCAA non-league women's basketball Wednesday night.
JCC allowed just one point over 5:38 until halftime on the way to a 37-22 lead and was even better the second half by allowing just 19 points in a 68-41 victory.
''Our defense played real well in the first half as we pressured the ball and got lots of turnovers,'' said JCC coach George Sisson.
Taylor Storer had the best game of her brief career with 17 points, eight steals, four rebounds and two assists while playing the entire 40 minutes.
''Taylor was just tremendous,'' Sisson said.
Storer had 10 points in the first half to lead the way. Lauren Saglimben came off the bench and hit two 3-pointers to help extend the advantage.
Ashley DePane had six steals to go along with her 12 points and Kristin Biela 15 rebounds and three assists for the Jayhawks.
Brook Draggett grabbed nine rebounds and Kelsie Beaver added nine rebounds and five assists for the winners, who allowed just seven field goals in the second half.
Erica Long of Pitt-Titusville netted 15 points in the first half and was held to just six after hat for 21 points.
''We really concentrated on her in the second half,'' Sisson said.
The Jayhawks hit just 28 percent of their shots (26-of-92) but controlled the boards, 71-45, led by Biela's double-digit effort.
''That's a good win coming off the Thanksgiving break and we are looking forward to the Tom D'Angelo Tournament this weekend,'' Sisson said.
The first game begins at 6 p.m. Friday with Niagara County CC playing Westmoreland CC and then at 8 p.m. JCC has its first meeting with Davis College from Johnson City, N.Y. Prior to that game, the Tom D'Angelo Spirit Award will be presented.
