JCC Women’s Basketball Team Ready To Host Tournament

The pairings have been announced for the second annual Tom D'Angelo Memorial Jayhawk Classic womens basketball tournament on Friday and Saturday at Jamestown Community College Athletic Complex.

On Friday at 6 p.m., Niagara County CC plays Westmoreland County CC and at 8 p.m., the host Jayhawks take on Davis College at 8 p.m. On Saturday at noon, NCCC and Davis play followed by JCC and Westmoreland County at 2 p.m.

Highlighting the tournament will be the presentation of two awards. The Tom D'Angelo Spirit Award will be presented between the games on Friday and is awarded to a person for their support and enrichment of the JCC women's basketball program. Between games on Saturday, the Amanda Rice Sportsmanship Award will be presented to a person who demonstrates all of the non-tangible aspects of being a Jayhawk - effort, attitude, commitment, leadership, etc.

''I am very proud to be part of this weekend of basketball and celebration,'' said JCC women's basketball coach George Sisson. ''We are fortunate to be able to have the support of the D'Angelo family and friends in keeping the spirit and support Mr. D'Angelo had for JCC and our Jayhawks.''

Tom D'Angelo Jr. said, ''My father was a great supporter of his family, friends and community. He was a proud graduate of JCC.''

Former women's basketball coach and now JCC athletic director, Keith Martin. said, ''He had a way about him that just brought people in. He made people laugh. There was just something about him that made you feel like you were a part of his life.''

Featured sponsors helping to support the event are Pepsi-Cola, Tac-Mac, The Trophy House, Fessenden, Laumer & DeAngelo Law Firm, the Jamestown Bowling Company and Arcade Senior Services Group.

Admission for the games will be $3 for adults, $2 for seniors citizen and students, and there is no admission fee for JCC students and faculty.
