Cherry Creek, NY - Versa "Kay" Abbey, 70, of South Road, Cherry Creek, passed away Tuesday, (Nov. 20, 2012) at home surrounded by her family.
Kay was born Aug. 31, 1942 in Wellsville, N.Y., the daughter of the late Marvin Howard Napier and Gertrude M. Teater Napier. She was a 1960 graduate of Randolph Central School.
Kay was very proud of her family and was a Home Maker for most of her married adult life. For 15 years she worked for the Cherry Creek Hardware. However, Kay was always happiest when she was home with her family. She was also a member of the Cherry Creek United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her sister and best friend, Dixie Lee McLaughlin and husband, John of Frewsburg; two daughters, Jill Estus and her companion Jason of Conewango Valley and Christine Riofrio of Danbury, Conn.; two sons, John M. Gross and companion Lou of Lily Dale, N.Y. and Kip A. Gross and his wife, Lisa of Cherry Creek; 18 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Her extended family includes; Kenneth Abbey and wife, Joette of Churchville, N.Y.; Kreg Abbey and wife, Ro-bin of Chesapeake, Va.; Keith Abbey of St. Augus-tine, Fl.; and Kathy Mierzwa of South Dayton, N.Y.
She was preceded by her husband, Alfred C. Abbey, whom she married on Nov. 15, 1986 and whom preced-ed her on March 3, 2011.
At Kay's request her final gift was to the University of Buffalo Anatomical Gift Program for use of her body for research and therefore visitation will not be ob-served.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Kay's life will be held at a later date with the time and place to be an-nounced. Arrangements are entrusted to the Van-Rensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Ran-dolph, NY 14772.
