Jamestown Community College's women basketball team played outstanding defense in easily defeating Lorain CC in NJCAA Division III action Saturday.

''We put a lot of pressure on the ball and limited Lorain to only nine field goals for the game,'' said Coach George Sisson after the Jayhawks picked up a 76-41 victory for their fourth win in six outings.

JCC gave up five field goals in the first half, but was even better with four in the second half.

''We never gave up an easy basket,'' said Sisson, whose Jayhawks held Lorain to just 9-of-57 shooting from the floor (16 percent).

Ashley DePane continued her impressive scoring by going 8-of-15 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the foul line for 26 points.

She poured in 16 points in the first half when the JCC built up a 38-20 lead. She also had nine rebounds, four steals and three assists.

The first 10 to 12 minutes were just about even, but then the Jayhawks, behind DePane, started to pull away. The only thing that made it remotely close was that Lorain made 10 free throws.

Lauren Saglimben scored six points and Ashlynn Nicherson had couple of baskets off the bench during the first-half run.

In the second half, DePane sank two 3-pointers and Beaver one as the Jayhawks started to wear down the six-woman team, which played on Friday night at Butler CC.

Kaylee Sheldon had nine of her 11 points in the second half. Nicherson wound up with seven rebounds and Brook Draggett seven.

''We got a spark off the bench,'' said Sisson in discussing the play of Sheldon, Saglimben and Nicherson.

''Everybody got to play and it was good solid win for us,'' said Sisson.

Hailey Schroeder and Nicole Gentile split 20 points to lead Lorain (1-5), which was 23-of-39 from the foul line.

The Jayhawks are next in action on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. when it invades Butler CC in a non-conference battle. The men play in the nightcap.
