CHERRY CREEK - Even without her name on the ballot, incumbent Debra Gabel will still be the tax collector in the town of Cherry Creek.
On Election Day, voters in the town of Cherry Creek headed to the polls to vote for national, state, county and town positions. However, under the one open town position - tax collector - voters saw no name.
So, during the election, voters had to write-in a candidate to be elected the town's tax collector. The position received 51 votes on Election Day, according to Brian Abram, Republican county election commissioner.
Abram said Gabel, who wrote a letter to the county Board of Elections to also be known as Debra Gabel Frost, received 43 votes. She also received a write-in vote for president of the United States.
Others who received votes in the race included Jaime Sandy, Dave Sheldon and Martin Smith.
Also, John Ward received a vote for Cherry Creek tax collector. Even though Ward was not chosen in Cherry Creek, he didn't leave Election Day empty-handed. He was re-elected as Chautauqua County court judge.
The remaining votes in the write-in election were received by Mickey Mouse, who gained three tallies.
