Have you noticed that while politicos and political junkies continue to be shrilly obsessed with, well, themselves and their opinions, the rest of America is leading a normal existence as life goes on.
We point to the volunteers, for example, who have been busy organizing the Holiday on the Hill boutique-style fine arts and crafts show at the Girl Scout service center on Horton Road, Jamestown. It continues today 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds this year will be donated to the Court Appointed Special Advocates.
The "American Girl" Christmas Tea Party at Moon Brook Country Club at 11 a.m. today is also the work of volunteers from the Western New York Kidney Connection. The event is a fundraiser to benefit community members who require kidney transplants.
Meanwhile, we all know that those Lutherans can cook up a storm, by golly, and so a big thumbs up to the Hometown Favorites cookbook compiled by members of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Lakewood.
The 276 recipes are organized in eight sections, progressing through appetizers, to main dishes and then on to desserts. They come from members of the church, their family and their friends from all over the country. The book is available for $10 and is on sale noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 16 at the church at 35 West Fairmount Ave. and on Sundays from 9 to 11:15 a.m. in Judith Hall. Books can be reserved by calling the church at 763-8979.
And, finally, thumbs up this morning to the Falconer modified girls soccer team for their superb 12-0 season in league play. Behind their overall 14-0-1 record is a bucketful of training, practice, teamwork and just plain heart. Congratulations, one and all.
