COLUMBUS, Ohio - Three players for Jamestown Community College recorded 57 points in a hard-fought victory over host Columbus State CC in the Columbus State CC Men's Basketball Tournament on Friday.
Davonte Dunham scored 21 points while Tyreek Jewell had 19 and Calvin Sterling 17 as the Jayhawks (3-3) upset Columbus State (1-1), 70-66.
In the other game, Genesee CC took care of Ohio State-Newark, 89-66, and meets Columbus State at 3 p.m. today. JCC plays Ohio State-Newark at 1 p.m.
Columbus State jumped out to 32-31 lead at halftime and then JCC went on a 39-34 margin during the second half to pull out the win.
JCC made 25 of 63 from the floor for 40 percent and 13 of 17 from the foul line for 77 percent.
Meanwhile, Columbus State hit on 26-75 for 35 percent from the floor and 11-17 from the charity stripe for 65 percent.
Sterling had seven assists and Dunham six for JCC. Kenny Stokes had four steals and Dunham had three.
The Cougars controlled the boards, 56-37, as reserve Mamadou Ba grabbed 14 rebounds and Mohamed Conde had 11. Ed Newell led the Jayhawks with six rebounds while Jewell and Kenny Stokes had five each.
The Cougars dominated the offensive boards, 24-9, with Ba having seven rebounds.
Ba led Columbus State in scoring with 14 points followed by Kendrick Williams and Wilkins with 13 each and Andre Bond had12.
