GERRY - Deveda F. Copeland, 88, of Heritage Village, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at the Rehab and Skilled Nursing facility.
Born Oct. 12, 1924, in Meadville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Prentice Sr. and Cena Wolfe Copeland.
She graduated from Meadville High School in 1942, Transylvania Bible School in 1946 and Jamestown General LPN program in 1969.
She pastored at the Free Methodist Churches in Robinson, Pa., from 1946-48 and Little Brownfield, Pa. from 1949-50. She came to Gerry in 1951 where she was first employed at the Children's Home and then the Gerry Homes until Sel-lew Memorial was built where she served as a nurse's aide in the infirmary and then at Heritage Village Health Care Center as an LPN until retiring in 1989.
Deveda was a member of the Gerry Free Methodist Church for more than 60 years serving in many ministries including, adult Sunday school teacher, children's church and mis-sions. She was a member of the Gerry WCTU since 1953 and had served as a local, district and state officer for many years including New York state treasurer and promotion director. She was also a member, New York state director and camp nurse of the LTL, preached on several occa-sions at the Deer Creek United Methodist Church Harvest Hame Day Celebration and had also led Wednes-day night prayer services at Heritage Village where she became a resident in 1996 and was active on the Resident's Advisory Coun-cil. She loved being with children. She was also a member of the Rodeo City Senior Citizens.
Sister of Prentice (Marie) Copeland Jr. of Sagertown, Pa., Ernest (Joyce) Copeland, Cena Ritteger all of Meadville, Pa., and the late Clarence and Clara Stoops. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday in Seeley Auditorium, Heritage Village Campus with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial in Kiser Hill Cemetery, Meadville, Pa.
