William Patrick Shields

ALMA, N.Y. - William Patrick Shields, 65, of Alma, N.Y., passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at home.

He was born March 17, 1947, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of the late Warren and Lorraine M. Sanborn Shields.

Bill attended Randolph Central School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War era from 1964 to 1966.

Mr. Shields was employed as a heavy equipment operator for LC Witford Construction Company in Wellsville, N.Y., and was also a self-employed heavy-equipment operator. He was a member of the McKee Farm Bee Club in Wellsville, enjoyed hunting and was a former member of the Randolph Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 2273.

He is survived by a brother: Barry Shields of Randolph: nephews: Mark Shields of Ellicottville, and Daniel Shields of Blasdell, N.Y.; as well as many cousins.

The family will receive family and friends from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, NY 14772, from where services will be held at noon. The Rev. Leslie Latham, pastor of the Randolph United Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
