BUFFALO - Mitch Wilson scored from 24 yards away and Tim Wagner kicked the extra point with 3:19 left as Orchard Park (10-1) defeated Rochester Aquinas (7-4) of Section 5, 14-7, for the Class AA Far West Regional title at All High Stadium Saturday night.
Aquinas had tied the game earlier in the fourth period at 7-7 when Billy Lombardi scored from 3 yards out and Jonathan Mastrella booted the extra point.
The Quakers have won 23 of their last 24 games, including a 35-20 win over Jamestown in the Section 6 championship game last weekend.
On Saturday, Orchard Park tallied in the second quarter as Ben Holmes hit paydirt from 19 yards and Wagner again split the uprights.
The win gave Section 6 victories in four of the five classes for the third time in five years. Hornell was the only successful Section 5 team by knocking off Cleveland Hill, 27-6, in Class B for its 50th straight win. In 2008 and 2009, Section 6 took four classes.
Orchard Park, the defending state champion, now heads to Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester and meets CBA of Section 3 at 6 p.m. Saturday in the state semifinals.
