FREDERICK, Md. - Tyreek Jewell and Calvin Sterling combined for 54 points, but it wasn't enough to carry Jamestown Community College to a victory in the opening round of Frederick CC Men's Basketball Tournament on Friday night.

Jewell hit 29 points and Sterling threw in 25, but Chesapeake College had more depth and came away with a high-scoring 106-92 decision.

Six-foot-5, 230-pound Geran Pope tossed in 14 points and Dion Bivens 11 as the winners took a 52-37 lead at halftime.

Jewell, a freshman from the Bronx, connected for 14 points and Sterling added 12 to account for all for all but 11 of JCC's points at intermission.

The second half was a shootout with the Jayhawks outscoring Chesapeake, 55-54. Jewell scored 15 more points and Sterling 13.

Jahmante Jackson was red-hot in the second half for the victors with 20 of his 23 points while Geran had 10 of his 24 points.

Davonte Dunham gave JCC a lift by scoring 16 points to be the third player in twin digits.

Bivens finished with 17 points for Chesapeake and 6-5, 280-pound Kevin Bonsu added 12 points.
