Jamestown Area Veterans Council To Hold Events

On Sunday, the Jamestown Area Veterans Council will be conducting various Veteran Ceremonies.

10 a.m. - Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 53 will hold a service of remembrance at Veterans Memorial Park, West Third Street and Harding Avenue. Commander Marcello (Jay) Rotunda will preside.

11 a.m. - American Legion Post 149 will conduct presentation of colors at the corner of Main and Third streets assisted by the Post 149 Firing Squad under the command of William Pihl. Other units participating are VFW Post 53, AMVETS Post 726, Seabees Island X-11, Vietnam Veterans Chapter 865 and Modern Day Warfare Chapter 20. All veterans are invited to participate.

Members of the Jamestown High School Band will also participate.

Immediately following the ceremony at Third and Main streets, participating units and the public will proceed to St. Lukes Episcopal Church at Fourth and Main streets for a service conducted by members of American Legion Post 149.

The first reading will be by John Spacht, past commander. The third reading will be by Edward Schroeder followed by an address by Clyde Card. Closing prayers by William Pihl, Richard Barkstrom, Barry Westerlund and Sean McNally. The benediction will be by Howard Lindstrom, chaplain emeritus, and Richard Boss, acting chaplain. Taps will be performed by Jimmy Paterniti.

At noon, a service of remembrance at Soldier's Circle will be conducted by Greg Hopkins, AMVETS Post 726 commander, assisted by Ron Cotton and Kenneth Furlow.

The Jamestown Area Veterans Council combined firing squad, under the command of William Pihl, will participate. Taps will be by a member of the Jamestown High School Marching Band.

The public and all veterans are invited to attend all of these services.
