Guy A. Taylor

MAYVILLE - Guy A. Taylor, 94, of Washington Street, Mayville, died Monday (Nov. 5, 2012), in St. Vincent's Hospital in Erie, Pa.

He was born March 5, 1918, in Mayville, the son of the late Bertrand S. and Dorothy L. Parment Taylor

Guy was a veteran of the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during World War II serving from April 17, 1941, until Oct, 17, 1945. He served in the 33rd Division 131st Infantry Headquarters Company, Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force as a radio operator, having served in England, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany.

He had worked at the Chautauqua Malted Milk Plant in Mayville for 30 years. He had also worked as a custodian at Hewes BOCES in Ashville, retiring at the age of 69.

Guy was a member of the Mayville American Legion, and the Ham Radio Club with his call letters WB2BWF.

Guy enjoyed traveling, the amateur radio, and keeping up with his family, and going to reunions with his Army buddies. He loved watching the Mayville Fourth of July parade.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Winn Taylor, formerly of England, and whom he married Aug. 18, 1947; a son, Devon (Nancy) Taylor of Mayville; a daughter, Deirdre (Ron) Bennett of St. Paris, Ohio; two granddaughters: Hannah Bennett, and Aurelia Taylor.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Arthur Donnelly.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. The Rev. Mark Parsons of the Mayville United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home and for one hour prior to the funeral on Friday.
