Rune L. Johnson

Rune L. Johnson, 86, of Jamestown, N.Y., passed away Thursday (Nov. 1, 2012), in the UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Pa.

A lifelong area resident, he was born March 8, 1926, in Jamestown, N.Y., a son of the late Leonard and Agda Ohlson Johnson.

He was a graduate of the former Lakewood High School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from Aug. 21, 1944, to July 28, 1945, during World War II in Germany. During his tour of duty, he received the Purple Heart and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Medal with two bronze stars.

Before his retirement, he was the superintendent of Building and Grounds for the Southwestern Central School system for many years. In earlier years, he was employed by the form-er Art Metal Inc. until it's closing in 1971.

He was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church serving on the church council for several terms. He was also a member of the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion, Celoron, the Busti Fire Department, the Mt. Moriah Lodge 145 Free and Accepted Masons, the Ingjald Lodge 65 Independent Order of the Vikings and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. Rune was a former member of the Southwestern Central School board of education, where he served a term as president of the school board.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Allene Wilcox, whom he married Oct. 6, 1948; a son, Randy (Cathryn) Johnson of Monroe, Conn; a daughter, Karen (Dennis) Lindemoen of Minneapolis; two grand-daughters: Jennifer (Micha-el) Parsell and Tricia (Robert) Pagel; four great- grandchildren: Augusta and Briggs Parsell, Lucy and Lila Pagel, all of Mon-roe, Conn.; three step-great grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Isaac and Carter Hughes, all of Plymouth, Minn., and his sister, Ruth M. Johnson of Jamestown, N.Y.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Chester L. Johnson.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Adam Miller-Stubbendick, pastor of the Beth-el Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
