James J. Reed

CATTARAUGUS - James J. Reed, 90, retired from the management department of Blackstone Corp, Jamestown, where he worked for 30 years, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at the Lutheran Nursing and Rehab Center, Jamestown, N.Y.

He was born Aug. 25, 1922 in Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of the late William and Lela (Turner) Reed.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II having attained the rank of technical sergeant, enlisting on Jan. 3, 1942, at Ok-lahoma City, Okla., and discharged on Nov. 11, 1945, at Ft. Macarthur, Calif.

James also worked at Purolator in Fayetteville, N.C., for three and a half years, and was a member of the Gowanda American Legion Post 409 and past member of the Randolph Circling Squares Dance Club.

He is survived by his wife, Doris M. Hill Reed of Jamestown; two sons; James A. (Karen) Reed of Ballwin, Mo., and Darryl L. (Coreen) Reed of Mililani, Hawaii; three daughters: Jacquelyn F. (James) Wells of Gowanda, N.Y., Donna B. (Gary) Norgaard of Leonia, N.J., and Doris A. (Joseph) Castevens of Charlotte, N.C.; 12 grandchil-dren; and a sister, Pauline Frey of Chickasha, Okla.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Laura A. Wells; his brother, William Reed; and four sisters: Ruth Brewer, Helen Chenault, Willa Gibbs and Norma Woodson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Hills Fun-eral Chapel, 55 S. Main St., Cattaraugus, N.Y. The Rev. Vernon Saile of Gowanda Free Methodist Church will be officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Park Cemetery in Cattaraugus.

Visitation will be held at the funeral chapel on Tues-day from 6 to 9 p.m.
