Hillcrest Christian Preschool recently hosted Jamestown firefighters to teach children about fire safety.
Learning about matches, candles, and lighters, the most common fire starting items, is vital to fire prevention.
Firefighters visited the 3-year-old classes recently and the pre-kindergarten class toured the City Hall station.

Three-year-olds at Hillcrest Christian Preschool learn to crawl under smoke during a recent fire-safety demonstration with Jamestown firefighters.
The largest of the ladder trucks provided a demonstration for the 3-year-olds as the ladder extended into the sky. A special treat for the class was meeting one fireman whose child is in the class. Seeing the transformation from father to firefighter as the firefighter put on all the firefighting gear was a step for the children to put aside any fears they have.
"Every year we include fire safety in our curriculum and devote an entire week to teaching the children about all aspects of fire prevention," said Jeanine Pickard of Hillcrest Christian Preschool. "Firemen stress that even small children can remember to dial 911 and react to an emergency when they have been given the basic instructions."
