A Jamestown man is in jail after a lengthy investigation into suspected drug activity.
Chauncey J. Robinson, 26, of Jamestown was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday. The crime, which is a class B felony, could have a maximum sentence of up to 25 years depending on the subject's criminal history.
According to police, at about 9:15 p.m. Saturday, after a multiple-week investigation by the Jamestown Police Drug Enforcement Unit, Robinson was taken into custody. The investigation, done in coordination with the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, led to Robinson being stopped in a motor vehicle just inside the city of Jamestown. Robinson was found to be in possession of more than 2 ounces of cocaine with an estimated street value of more than $8,000.

Robinson was taken to the Jamestown City Jail and arraigned in Jamestown City Court on a charge of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail without bail and will be back in city court later this week for a preliminary hearing.
