Dolores A. “Dody” Bloom

Dolores A. "Dody" Bloom, 81, formerly of 130 E. Falconer St., Falconer, N.Y., passed away at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2012), in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center.

A lifelong area resident, she was born Jan. 22, 1931, in Jamestown, N.Y., a daughter of the late Alpine "Piney" and Ruth Sigular Johnson.

She was a 1949 graduate of Jamestown High School.

Before her retirement, she was employed as a nurse's aide for the former Presbyterian Home on the campus of Lutheran Social Services for several years. She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and was a past chief for the Ingjald Lodge 65 Independent Order of the Vikings.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, William E. Bloom, whom she married Nov. 4, 1950; six children: Lynn (Dale) Long of Jamestown, Debbie (Keith) Morano of Falconer, Brenda L. Bloom of South Carolina, William (Diana) Bloom of Jamestown, Nanci (Rick) Brady of Falconer, and Gail (Dan) Barker of Jamestown; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and her twin sisters: Joanne Leber of Deland, Fla., and Ann Lou Gallagher of Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Alpine W. "Piney" Johnson Jr., who died Feb. 3, 2008.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Christ Chapel of Lutheran Social Services. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, pastor of the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center, will officiate. Friends will be received following the service.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750; or to Lutheran Social Services, 715 Falconer St. Jamestown, NY 14701; or to a charity of one's choice.
