OLEAN - Led by Sydney Thomas, Southwestern concluded an unbeaten season at the Division 1 swimming championships of the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Thursday night at the Olean Middle School.
Thomas won the 200 freestyle (2:05.03) and the 500 freestyle (5:36.10) as the Lady Trojans recorded 578 points, Olean had 453 points, Chautauqua Lake 174 points, Silver Creek/Dunkirk 100 points and Fredonia 79 points.
Other firsts for the champions were Veronica Schuver in diving (368.50 points), Katie Lawton in the 100 butterfly (1:03.39), Sydney Burk in the 100 backstroke (1:05.1) and the Southwestern's 400 freestyle relay (3:49.76) made up of Xiane Smith, Kelsey Powers, Thomas and Burk.
The Lady Trojans recorded seconds in the 400 relay (4:07.21), consisting of Lizzie Brunecz, Lynsey Gutzmer, Lelly Hoose and Megan Gutzmer, Katie Lawton in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.27), Smith in the 100 freestyle (57.02) and in the 50 freestyle (26.17), Hoose in the 100 butterfly (1:09.02) and Jilli Lawton in the 500 freestyle (5:58.67).
Also another second for the winners was the 200 relay team made up Katie Lawton, Brunecz, Powers and Thomas.
Thirds for the Lady Trojans were picked up by the 200 freestyle relay team made up of Shelby Lunz, Lynsey Gutzmer, Megan Gutzmer and Jilli Lawton, Lunz in the 100 breaststroke (1;15.32) and Burk in the 100 freestyle (57.17).
Southwestern had a second in the 200 medley relay (1:59.21)with Burk, Katie Lawton, Smith and Powers comprising the unit and a third with Burk, Katie Lawton, Smith and Powers making up the squad that had a 2:06.16 time
