50-Plus Alumni
The Bemus Point 50-plus alumni met for a reunion and dinner, catered by Classic Occasions, in the Fluvanna Fire Hall with 94 alumni, spouses and four friends attending. Committee members were Miriam Casselman Price, class of 1944; Richard Shaver, class of 1954, and his wife, Nancy; James Hansen, class of 1951, and his wife, Lora; Burt Hallberg, class of 1954; and David Hallberg, class of 1955. Mariam Price stated Mary Lucas, a 2012 Maple Grove Junior/Senior High School graduate, received the Charles and Irene Hallberg Scholarship.
Richard Shaver read the roll call for classes 1934 to 1961. Deaths were recorded. The meeting closed with song, led by Evelyn Strickland Hurlburt, class of 1946. Class members attended from Texas, Florida, Maryland, Arizona, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, North Tonawanda, Gowanda and local areas.
Falconer High School
Class of 1956
The Falconer High School Class of 1956 held its 56th class reunion and chicken barbecue in the Breezewood Links Golf Course. Out of state members attended from Florida, Virginia, Indiana and Michigan.
A golf tournament was held. The next reunion will be discussed at monthly meetings.
Jamestown High School
Class of 1945
Members of the Jamestown High School Class of 1945 celebrated their 85th birthdays recently at the 67th class reunion, held in the Chautauqua Lake Yacht Club. Harry Glatz was the master of ceremonies. Gladys Peterson gave the treasurer's report, spoke on donations received from Harry Glatz and remembered deceased alumni. Joan Rogerson Byrne thanked Virginia Thomas Lind for providing the birthday cake and favors. Joyce Swanson Johnson distributed comment sheets from those alumni not able to attend. She and Mrs. Lind will update addresses for future reunions. The next reunion will be in August 2013.
Jamestown High School
Class of 1947
The Jamestown high School Class of 1947 celebrated its 65th reunion with dinner and a breakfast brunch in Moon Brook Country Club. Musical entertainment at the dinner was provided by the Vince Micchea Combo. Classmates attended from Florida, Maryland, Ohio, Georgia, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York state. Committee members were Helen Wahlstrom Weaver, honorary chairwoman; Shirley Hancq Potwin and Mary Hollis McCall, co-chairwomen, assisted by Jack McCall, Rose Nalbone Cardinale, Joan Peterson Leavens, Dorothy Johnson Pettit, Carmella Chiazzese Cirincione, Frances Worch Lunetta and JoAnn Fisher Smith.
Randolph Central School
Class of 1972
The Randolph Central Class of 1972 met for its 40th reunion in the Randolph American Legion, with 57 persons attending. Alumni attended from Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Indiana, South Carolina, Kansas and New York state. Janet Sahley Huntington, hostess, shared group letters and emails from classmates not able to attend. A DVD, highlighting school experiences from kindergarten through senior year, was available for purchase.
Southwestern Central High School
Class of 1982
The Southwestern Central High School Class of 1982 met for a 30th reunion in the South Hills Golf Course, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and Lakewood Legion with alumni attending from as far away as California and Washington state. The class is currently raising funds for a scholarship, in memory of Michael Collins and Gary Ramano, that is given to a Southwestern senior each year. Michele Graham Driver, Marcia Farnsworth Bretz, Dave Ruby, Dave Crisafulli, Bill Wassman, Robin Blake and Lisa Foster Morse were the reunion committee.
