HERKIMER - The Jamestown Community College suffered a heart-breaking double-overtime defeat to host Herkimer CC, 2-1, in an NJCAA Region 3 Division III sub-regional playoff game on Saturday.
After a series of missed chances for the Jayhawks resulted in a scoreless tie at half, Courtney Corder finally broke through at the 67th minute to give JCC a 1-0 lead.
JCC (8-7-2) held that lead for the next 21 minutes until, with a little less than two minutes remaining in regulation, Herkimer scored following a rebound off a corner kick.
Jamestown nearly salvaged the victory two minutes into the opening 10-minute overtime period, but the shot from close range sailed just over the cross bar.
Tied after overtime, Herkimer tallied four penalty kicks to Jamestown's two, capturing the hard-fought victory.
