Ruth Joanne Costa Carter of 110 W. Third St., went to be with the Lord on Oct. 18, 2012, after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born Dec. 29, 1946, the daughter of the late Lois E. Faraone Costa and Joseph J. Costa.
Ruth Joanne worked as a certified nursing assistant for many years at various nursing facilities. Her last job was at WCA Hospital.

Surviving is a son, Joseph (Debbie) Chadbourne of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a daughter, Sheila (Joseph) Kepler of Camp Pendleton, Calif; grandchildren: Christopher Kepler of Seattle, Wash., and Jessica, Jordan, Madison and Landon Kepler, all of California; a sister, R. Janet Mole, Lancaster, N.Y.; a nephew, Samuel Mole of Lancaster, N.Y., Nanette and Michelle Costa of Jamestown, N.Y., and Brittany Geist of Jamestown, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by an infant son; a brother, Michael Costa, 1991; her father, Joseph, 1994; and her mother, Lois, 1995.
No visitation will be observed. A memorial service will be held at the New Covenant Assembly, 17 Ar-lington Ave., Jamestown, N.Y., on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at 11 a.m.
Ruth Joanne donated her body to science for research in the fight against cancer.
In lieu of flowers, dona-tions may be made to New Covenant Assembly in memory of Ruth Joanne.
