"In a relatively short time frame Mike has clearly shown that he is passionate about positive youth development through physical activity and healthy lifestyles,'' said executive director Jeff Kroon. ''We look forward to his leadership in this important aspect of the overall Boys & Girls Club experience for our kids."

Gerdy will coordinate the physical education components of the Club's Project SAFE After School Program, all instructional and recreational youth sports programs including indoor soccer, basketball, flag football, floor hockey, kickball and wiffle ball, as well as youth open recreation hours on weekday evenings, Saturdays, school holidays and vacation periods.

The Boys & Girls Club is currently accepting registrations for Project SAFE After School and all youth sports programs with indoor soccer set to begin the week of Oct. 15 and others to follow throughout the school year.

Funds for partial registration scholarships for families in need of assistance for their children to participate have been provided by the Winifred Crawford Dibert Foundation, the Ralph C. Sheldon Foundation and the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. All Boys & Girls Club youth programming is supported in part through the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County.
