SOUTH DAYTON - With recent technology, students do not have to carry lunch money around and are able to pay for their lunches with student ID cards.
However, students may lose their cards or forget to take them to lunch. Pine Valley Board of Education discussed the problem at a recent board meeting.
Students who forget their ID cards are allowed to give their student ID number to the lunch clerk, who looks up the student by their number in a computer system.
"(Students) should remember their cards," said Cathy Fabiatos, high school principal.
Students have been giving the wrong numbers to the clerk though. A new machine would allow students to use a partial fingerprint instead of an ID card. The board had concerns with using fingerprints of students and concerns parents would have. The board rejected the proposal.
The board also approved to offer CPR and first aid training for volunteer coaches in house for this school year. The issue will be brought up again during budget time and the board will make a decision whether to continue with the in-house training.
