Open House To Include Insurance Discussions

CASSADAGA - An insurance open house and seminar for agricultural producers will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 17, at the Cassadaga American Legion.

Sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County, the New York Farm Bureau and local businesses and agencies, the event will feature two open house sessions and four 30-minute presentations about insurance.

Lunch will be provided. The cost is $5 per person for Cornell Cooperative Extension enrolled farms and $10 per person for non-enrolled farms. Farms are requested to make reservations by Friday. Businesses and agencies wanting to sponsor the event are requested to inquire about paying the exhibitor's fee of $50 at the door. The Community Chamber Development Corp., a subsidiary of the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce, will address the issue of increased health insurance premiums, offer some ways to address them, and go over the direction from New York state and the Affordable Care Act.

Bernard Benson with the Emerling Agency will cover various health insurance options for farm businesses and their family.

Kevin Cook with the New York Farm Bureau will provide an overview of the Worker's Compensation system in New York for agriculture.
