Twilla Joanne Barber

GERRY - Twilla Joanne Barber, 84, of the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center, formerly of Randolph and Springville, passed away Friday (Oct. 5, 2012) in the home.

She was born Jan. 19, 1928, in Franklinville, N.Y., the daughter of the late Charles and Doris Smith Burdic. She attended Bradford Area Schools and later went on to establish a career as a nursing aide for 30 years from 1966-96, where she had worked for Staff Builders and later worked in many area private homes caring for those in need.

She was a member of the House of Prayer Church in Salamanca and was a former member of the Steamburg Union Free Church. Joanne loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending with family and friends. For many years she was active with the Southern Tier CB Neighbors.

She is survived by her daughter and caregiver, Margaret "Peggy" Kenyon Jones; a son, Ernest Kenyon of East Randolph; her companion, Bill Buckhahn of Springville; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a stepson, Ricky Barber of Salamanca; and a stepdaughter, Penny Barber Peterson of Salamanca. She is also survived by 10 siblings: Margaret Greenhouse of Avon, N.Y., Ester Miller of Jamestown, Beatrice Kranking of Sherman, Frances Smith of Rochester, N.Y., Charles Burdic of Springville, N.Y., Robert Burdic of Delevan, N.Y., Donna Greenwood of Bakersfield, Calif., Rita Potts of Arlington, Texas, David Burdic of Minnesota and James Burdic of Ashville, N.Y.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Kenyon, second husband, Frank Barber, stepdaughter, Gloria Evanock, and a brother, Raymond Burdic.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (Oct. 8, 2012) in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, from where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Larry G. Summers, pastor of the Martin Road Christian Fellowship of Jamestown, will officiate. Burial will be in the Steamburg Cemetery.
